BAD NEWS Summer 2010 Upcoming meets This Saturday we have the Bay State Games at Harvard. Although it may be short notice for some of you, we are hoping that most divers who are 12 and older can attend. Warmups start at 12:00 noon and you may register on deck. The link is below. We'll also be looking for help from the parents. http://www.baystategames.org/html/bsgwww/summergames/sports/diving.html A reminder for those of you going on to Tucson to the USA diving national championships, you need to enter online within the next few days. The AAU nationals registration is also posted at this link. https://secure.meetcontrol.com/divemeets/system/meetinfoext.php?meetnum=894 By now most of you heard the big news that we will be
training at
Northeastern University in the fall. We will still be in
Concord, and there's a slight chance one other sub suburban pool. The reason for
the move was primarily that Northeastern promises year-round pool time, plus
they are building a training room. When done the training room will look like
the Brandeis room. The training room will be right next to the diving well so we
won't have to travel far. The new trampoline is a lot bouncier than the last. We
will have access to the training room pretty much anytime we want. If things go
the way I expect, practice will be in the training room from 6 PM to 7:15 PM
then in the pool 7:15 PM until about 8:30 PM. We also have Saturday and Sunday
mornings. I'm not sure what time we will be running those practices or whether
it will only be lessons, or a combination of team and lessons. Many of you have asked what the pool is like. I went to the
pool yesterday to do some work and take a photo of the diving boards, but the
boards had been taken down because they just rebuilt the cement stands at the 1
m stand. Northeastern is going through a lot of trouble to accommodate us and
make this a great training venue. They are changing the rec swim times, building
the training room, rebuilding the cement stands and hopefully getting some new
diving boards this year. There is a spotting rig in the pool over the 1 m. This
should be a big help for learning new dives. Parking is the next item that usually comes up. During our
workout times there's usually parking across the street on the side road. There
are parking lots close to the pool but you have to drive around campus to get to
it. What I would recommend is dropping the kids off looking for street parking
then going to one of the other lots if there is no a street parking available. We will work out some type of ID system for the divers and
the parents. The divers will have to show some sort of ID to get access to the
building. We're working that out with the recreation department. The recreation
department also runs a large exercise and weight room across the street from the
pool. If anyone is interested in using it let me know it may be possible to make
arrangements. There are also several places to eat across the street from the
pool. With a new training room (once again the only one the
northeast) along with the belt over the board, we will be able to more quickly
bring the divers up to a higher level. Having all these training tools at
our disposal, along with an uninterrupted season, I believe it is well worth
the extra travel. Two weeks ago we travel down to coral Springs Florida for
training trip we had several over
ex- BAD coaches along
with Dick Kimball six-time Olympic coach and South Shore diving and their
coaching staff. The clinic went great would get a lot of work done in only a few
days. It was great to see some the divers get a tan. We didn't have time to get
to the beach but we do get to work out about six hours a day. From coral Springs
12 divers went to Pittsburgh for the zone qualifying meet. 10 divers made it to
USA diving nationals. The divers who did not make it Somme had excellent meets
but it wasn't enough with tough competition. Our team finished third overall
without any boys were younger divers. A very impressive finish congratulations
to all of you. The next trip is to Tucson I will be out there the
afternoon of the 21st I will leave the evening of the 31st arriving in Fort
Lauderdale on August 1. I know many of you are still deciding what reservations
to make, I would recommend going straight Fort Lauderdale Jim and Luke will be
down there to help train the divers until my arrival. You get a little extra
training in and those two extra plane trips short amount of time does take a
toll. The divers going from Tucson to coral Springs won't need a big adjustment.
Divers coming from our indoor pools might want to take an extra day or two to
train outdoors for the competition.
