PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS

Practice is the most important facet of the BAD program.  Although competition is the obvious test of a diver’s ability and there is emphasis on achievements accomplished during competition, practice is where the diver’s values, potential and foundation for achievement are established.

By following these suggestions, the proper environment will be created to allow each diver to achieve his or her maximum potential:

1.  Meet the Challenge! Every practice is a series of challenges that, if met with enthusiasm and desire, will lead to goal achievement.

2.  Maintain a positive attitude!  Practice should be enjoyable.  Whiners and complainers decrease everyone’s enjoyment.

3.  Arrive for practice 10 minutes before scheduled starting time, mentally prepared with the day’s specific and general goals in mind.

4.  Attend every practice and stay the entire practice.  Early dismissals and missed practices will only be allowed when absolutely necessary and with prior approval from a coach.

5.  Give the coaches undivided attention.  Follow their directions at all times.  Never talk or otherwise become a distraction when a coach is talking.  Be prepared to dive when it is your turn.  Keep the line moving.  Disrespectful attitudes and disruptive conduct won’t be tolerated.

6.  Listen carefully to your coaches’ directions.  Follow all directions completely and exactly.  If clarification is needed, please ask.  Focus on every exercise, every leadup, every dive!

7.  Excessive bouncing or balking is not allowed.  Remember, balking takes practice time away from teammates as well as from yourself.

8.  You may not dive without a coach in the pool to supervise you.

9.  Support others in your group during practice.  Working together for the benefit of all is an important part of “BAD TEAM SPIRIT”.  Many of our divers know more about some dives than many local coaches.  You help yourself when you help others.

10.  Abusive language and disrespectfulness, towards coaches or other divers will not be tolerated.  A serious problem may result in expulsion from practice or from the team.

   11.    Have Fun!

The purpose of the above is to provide a safe and effective training environment.  Divers must follow these in spirit as well as in specifics. The coaches are required to adapt to an infinite number of situations.  Therefore, divers and their parents will be bound to the coach’s discretion.  Support and cooperation from parents and divers will produce a productive practice environment for all.  We very rarely have any problems  because our team is built around “good kids” not necessarily the most talented kids.
