HAND SPOTTING Hand spotting is a coaching technique where the coach guides and controls the divers actions. Hand spotting can be as simple as helping diver learn an up-and-down jump pattern or it can involve guiding a diver into a somersault. At BAD, we use hand spotting to accelerate correct techniques on many drills. The repetition of these drills (usually done on the side of the pool) will improve dives. Most hand spotting is done with younger (smaller) divers because it is easier and more effective. If a diver or parent has any questions or hesitation about being hand spotted, please speak to the coaching staff. Parent and divers should know that hand spotting is generally safe, but like any athletic activity, there is some risk. Divers should never practice drills unsupervised. |
